Author: Bettina Restrepo
Release Date: March 1, 2011
Description:
Nora is on a desperate journey far away from home. When her father leaves their beloved Mexico in search of work, Nora fights to make sense of her loss while waiting for her father’s return and a better day. When the letters and money from her father stop coming, Nora decides that she and her mother must look for him in Texas. After a harrowing experience crossing the border, the two are all alone in a strange place called Houston. Now, Nora figures out how to survive while still aching for small comforts: friends, a new school, and a quinceañera to mark her fifteenth birthday.
This book is actually a bit out of range, of what I normally read, but I just can't resist a beautiful cover and a killer description! I have a feeling that is book is going to be spectacular. Nora and her mom seem like they are going to go through hell and back to find her dad. I really can't wait for this book. I am hoping that I can get an ARC of it, If not I will be the first in line on release day.
I saw this listed somewhere and wanted to check it out, too. Sounds interesting and different.

It definitely explores a new issue in YA. Great pick.
ReplyDeleteMary since I am from Texas and have met many "Nora's" the book hits a little too close to home for me, illegal immigration is a subject that stirs many different feelings in our big old state.... I do think it sounds like a good reading experience so hope you do get your copy to read and enjoy it!

jackie >_<
I love the sound of this one. The cover is pretty, but I feel they could have went with a Nora for the cover who had darker hair and skin. My kids are half Mexican so I can be a little picky when it comes to stuff like that ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat WOW!
