Vampire Academy

Author: Richelle Mead

Release date: Aug 16, 2007

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever

Okay so I will admit, I think I am the only on in book blogging history that has not read the Vampire Academy series. So I thought I should probably get around to it!

Rose Hathaway is a guardian to one of the most important people in the vampire world, her best friend Lissa. Lissa is the last remaining in her family. Her parents and brother were killed in a car accident. Oh yeah and Lissa is a Royal... She is a princess. Both Rose and Lissa attend St. Vladimir Adacemy, a place for Guardians and Moroi (which is what Lissa is) learn to prefect their craft. A terrible event has made Rose take Lissa and run from St. Vladimir's, an event that has endangered Lissa's life.

Rose and Lissa have been on the run for months when the Guardians from St. Vladimir's Academy catch up with them and return them to the school. The school seems to think that they can protect Lissa better than Rose can. Rose and Lissa also have bond... Rose can see into Lissa's mind and get a feel for her emotions. Which comes in handy when Lissa is in danger because Rose has the ability to pop into her head and see exactly what is happening.
Back at the school Rose is placed in classes with Dimitri to hone her skills as a Guardian to protect Lissa. Soon Rose begins to develop a crush on Dimitri who is 7 years older than her and also a fellow Guardian. If anything were to happen between them it would be looked down upon, but Rose can't help her developing feelings.

I am not sure yet that I have fell under the Vampire Academy series. I don't find myself aching to read the next in the series. Over all I did enjoy the book. I liked how both girls have love interests and that one is strictly forbidden but can't help but surface. I was routing the entire time for something to happen between Rose and Dimitri also with Lissa and Christian, but when something did happen, I have to admit I was a bit disappointed. I didn't feel like anything was developed very well as far as relationships go. That is accept for the one between Rose and Lissa. I could feel the unbreakable bond between them. I did like the twist that Vampire Academy took on vampires. How there are different names and different vampires. Moroi are good vamps, that feed from humans but do not drain them. Strigoi are the bad vamps that have drained someone and killed them, stripping the Moroi of all humanity, and giving them a taste for Moroi blood.

I will pick up the next book in this series, but I fear that it wont be right away. Due to the fact that I had a hard time staying interested. But I upped the rating on this by one flower for the pure fact that I think this series has a lot to offer and hope it will get much better.

  1. Love, love love this series! You should totally get the next book. It gets way better!

  2. I felt the same way but you must read the next book because it gets better and better.

  3. I feel the same way about the series. I've read the first two and still have the third just waiting to be read. It's an entertaining series I just haven't gotten hooked yet either.

  4. I haven't read this series either, but my bff seriously adores these books!

    Thanks for this review. :)

  5. I will attempt to pick up the next book once I finish reading Wake Unto Me... I am loving Wake Unto Me!

  6. I absolutely fell in LOVE with the series! I was in the same boat as you: I had never read the series until last month. But let me tell you, book one had me hooked. And it keeps getting better and better!

  7. I love the series. The next book is even better ^.^ The only thing that really bothers me is how sissy Lissa is. It seems she can't do anything without Rose. And yeah, I was also a little disappointed when things started happening relationship-wise, and then nothing really happened.
