Author Interview and Giveaway: H.P. Mallory!

 Author Interview & Giveaway
w/ H.P. Mallory

Author of:

H.P. Mallory was so nice to stop by our blog today and do a fantastic interview! H.P. is a great author of two books, and another titled Toil and Trouble due out soon. With Halloween around the corner, you should check them out. They are both great Halloween reads :)
Following the interview is a great giveaway. So check it out!

What character is your favorite in Toil and Trouble?
Oh man, that’s a tough one. Well, I have to say that Sinjin really becomes a large character in Toil and Trouble and that was really fun because I do love Sinjin! LOL But I also love Rand so hmmm….can’t pick!

Do you relate with any of the characters?
Yes, I really relate to Jolie. Maybe because I wrote her. LOL

Did you base any of your characters off of real people?
Nope. They all came out of my head.

I have to admit I have a soft spot for Sinjin. How would you describe him to someone who hasn't read the series?
Hmm, well he’s a vampire and as such, he’s been around for 600 plus years. While he is very debonair and sexy, he’s also going to show a more caring side in this book. Although, there is always a side of him where you can’t help but wonder if his actions are based on selfish motives.

Jolie has two love interests in Toil and Trouble. Both who suit different parts of her personality. How did you come up with that kind of plot?
I have just always loved love triangles. LOL I think that’s why I love the Sookie Stackhouse and early Anita Blake series so much. I just love the idea of who will she pick??

How did you chose the location for Pelham Manor?
I stayed in an amazing hotel in Scotland called the Breadsall Priory. I just fell in love with the architecture and lay of the land so I molded Pelham Manor after this incredible building. You can see pictures of the hotel on my website:

I love Jolie's character, she is strong and independent, nothing about her screams damsel in distress. How did you come up with such a amazing character as the leading lady?
Thank you, Mary! I don’t know. I just wanted to write about someone who isn’t super strong and independent in the beginning and learns about herself along the way. I definitely didn’t want the damsel in distress type heroine because I don’t respect them! LOL I like women who can take care of themselves…

Do You believe in soulmates? and if so, did you believe that whoever Jolie choses in this book will be her soulmate? Or will she play the field a little more?
Um, not sure I believe in soulmates. I haven’t really thought about it before. Whoever Jolie ends up with definitely be the right choice for her. And little secret, I don’t know who she’s going to end up with! LOL

What can we expect from Toil and Trouble?
Toil and Trouble will pick up where Fire Burn left off, continuing the theme of the Underworld war and the situation between Rand, Sinjin and Jolie. And there will be a big surprise.

What is the best thing that a reader has ever said to you?
That they loved my books. One of the coolest things readers say is that my writing is easily as good as my traditionally published counterparts which is awesome because that really substantiates what I do. As an indie author, we really have to overcome the stereotype that our writing sucks. LOL so when someone tells me I’m easily as good as other well-known writers, that is just too cool for words!

What is your favorite snack while writing?
Hahahah what isn’t my favorite snack. Well, I actually don’t really eat while I’m writing. I’m too engrossed in my story!

Where do you do your best writing?
I do all my writing at home in my office, starting at 5 am. I do my editing in the evenings once my 18 month old son is asleep. Phew!

When can we expect to see Toil and Trouble released?
Jan 1, 2011

Are your books available in hard copy?
Soon! I’ve just approved a paperback proof of each one so they will be available on Amazon shortly.

Who influenced your writing the most?
Um, not really sure. I love the paranormal genre and of all the series out there, Sookie Stackhouse is probably my favorite but I’m not sure it necessarily influenced me. Good question!

Are any of your character's based off of yourself?
No but I’m sure there are parts of me that are in all of them which is a natural since everything I write comes out of my mind. I think authors can’t help but influence their characters.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Just that I’d like to thank you, Mary, and all my readers for taking a chance on my books. Without you, I wouldn’t have made it this far! So, thank you!

Thank You again H.P. Mallory for doing an interview with us today on your books. You can check out my reviews on H.P. Mallory's first two books Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble and To Kill A Warlock by clicking on the name of the books.
